Comedian Shyam Rangeela, known for his impersonations of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had his nomination for the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat rejected by the Election Commission of India (ECI). The rejection stemmed from an incomplete nomination filing, specifically a missing affidavit.

As per the election commission’s website, among 55 candidates, the forms of 36 nominees were rejected, while the affidavits of 15 candidates, including PM Modi and Congress’ Ajay Rai, were accepted.
Filing Attempts and Rejection
Rangeela, who filed as an independent candidate, alleged facing administrative hurdles while attempting to submit his nomination papers since May 10th. He claimed he was denied access to the district magistrate’s office on the day Prime Minister Modi filed his nomination.
Despite filing his nomination on May 14th, the ECI website showed its rejection the following day. Rangeela expressed disappointment, alleging that “democracy has been murdered.”

Possible Reasons and Reactions
The ECI has not disclosed the specific reason for rejecting Rangeela’s nomination, but it likely centered on the missing affidavit. He contested the ECI’s decision, asserting that he had all necessary documents.
This incident has sparked discussions about fair access to the electoral process and potential challenges faced by independent candidates.

From Comedy Stages to Political Arena
